Bladder Endometriosis

What is Bladder Endometriosis?

Bladder Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows on or inside the bladder. This rare condition can cause pain, urinary symptoms, and affect quality of life. It most commonly affects women of reproductive age.

Common Symptoms:

  • Pain or pressure in the bladder or pelvic area

  • Painful urination (dysuria)

  • Urinary urgency or frequency

  • Blood in the urine, especially during menstruation

  • Discomfort during sexual activity

Causes & Triggers:

The exact cause of bladder endometriosis isn’t fully understood, but it may involve:

  • Retrograde menstruation (endometrial tissue traveling outside the uterus)

  • Hormonal influences on endometrial tissue

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Previous pelvic surgery or inflammation

Management & Treatment:

Treatment focuses on reducing symptoms and preserving bladder and pelvic health:

  • Medications: Hormonal therapies to reduce endometrial growth and inflammation

  • Pain management: Over-the-counter or prescribed pain relief

  • Surgery: Removal of endometrial tissue from the bladder or pelvic region in severe cases

  • Support & lifestyle strategies: Pelvic floor therapy, dietary adjustments, and symptom tracking
